The unique two-story Lepenitsa cave is located three kilometers from Belogradchik, in the middle of the sanctuary complex in Markashnitsa and in the middle of the Belogradchik rocks.
The vault of the second floor shows signs of artificial treatment to achieve the ideal cylindrical shape. Its shape both outwardly and inwardly resembles a human eye, and for this reason people from ancient times used it to observe the sunrise and accordingly develop their knowledge of the seasons and the length of day and night.
The cave can be reached on foot in about 1.5 hours from Belogradchik or in about 20 minutes after driving on a dirt road from the village of Izvos.
The views on the way until you reach the cave are breathtaking, and above the cave itself is the Star Map – a place with incredible energy and panorama.
