The town of Lom is the nearest river port to the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia.
According to Herodotus, the Thracians called the setllement Artanes. Around year 29 A. D. the Romans built a fortress and a road station and named it Almus.
The present town of Lom follows the curves of the Danube river and has a beautiful center where you will find the Historical Museum, the art gallery “Polomie”, the restored newspaper kiosk which is over 100 years old, architectural monuments such as the local houses and the fire tower as well as the building of the first community center “Persistence”.
Here you can also visit the Orthodox temples “Assumption of Virgin Mary” and “St. Nikola The Old One”.
