Welcome to Durankulak Lake Protected Area!
Durankulak Lake is located in Northeastern Bulgaria, 15 km to the north of Shabla.
The total area of the protected area covers 447 hectares. The lake is among the best preserved coastal wetlands in Bulgaria. There are over 260 species of rare and endangered plants and animals protected from extinction. Here spend the winter the populations of three species of waterfowl – the greater white-fronted goose, the red-breasted goose and the mallard and the populations of the pygmy cormorant and the pink pelican.
Durankulak Lake has the greatest importance for the preservations of birds. Here passes the major bird migratory route Via Pontica, making it a suitable destination for ornithological tourism, family walks and relaxation in nature.
