With the end of the Russian-Turkish war, Giurgiu becomes a Romanian territory again and general Kiseleff decided to turn the mosques of Giurgiu and Braila into Orthodox churches. In 1830, the former mosque in Giurgiu, is redone in the shape of a Christian church – today’s “St. Nicholas” church. The traces of cannonball can still be seen in its walls, as a proof of the turmoil history of this territory.
