Tomis or today’s Constanta, was founded more than 2500 years ago by the Greek navigators and merchants coming from Milet. Tomis reached its peak around the middle of the 1st century. Temples and great buildings, public squares and thermae, marble workshops, as well as streets and new neighbourhoods were built during these times. The remains of the old civilisation can be seen everywhere in today’s Constanta much like an open air museum.
