The Vodita Monastery was erected by St. Nicodim at the expense of the ruler Vlaicu Voda in 1372. The initial church of the monastery is, perhaps, the first monument of Romanian sacred architecture erected on a three-cone plane. The monastery experienced periods of flourishing and decay. After the Austrian-Turkish war in 1718, the monastery was greatly damaged. In 1995, an imposing cell complex and a wood church were built.
