The Callatis Fortress was founded at the end of the 6th century B. C. by the Dorian colonists, on the place of a Getic settlement. Callatis was destroyed forever by the attacks of the Avars and Slavs at the beginning of the 7th century. The most important archeological findings from the fortress are shown in the Callatis museum.
