Considered the core of Romanian christianity, the Cave of St. Apostle Andrei is the oldest Christian church in Romania. Archaeological discoveries certify that this cave was the place where the Apostle Andrew lived for some time promoting the Christianity. In a niche, there is a bed carved in stone, and the legend says that the Apostle Andrew used to lie there. Two churches were built in the immediate vicinity of the cave: a small one in 1995 and the big one, with a coffin holding St Andrew’s remains, in 2002.
